CAROLINE MARSLAND

ABOUT

 ABOUT THE ARTIST

Originally from Cheshire, I completed an Art Foundation course at Manchester University before relocating to Brighton to study for my Honours Degree in Graphic Design and Illustration.Since graduating I have worked to commission or sold through exhibition. My main interest is in portraiture and still life although I have worked on church projects, mosaics, logos and sold many drawings and sketches.

The inspiration for my work comes from all around me. I can be inspired by a purchase from a car boot, from the moods and colours of the seasons, a pattern, a shape, the expression in a face, a personality or merely from an emotional response to my surroundings.

I am particularly involved with reflections and the distortions created by a convex/concave reflective surface. This theme runs through most of my work at present. I love the mystery of a shadow and use artificial light to enhance the glow of the objects I paint. At times I work in the dark with very little light to see what I am painting which is both challenging and rewarding.

I am particularly active during the Brighton festival and have held many Open Houses. Concurrent with my career in art, I have built up and maintain my Children's Nursery, Happy Days, in the heart of Hanover, Brighton.
