This course is for all levels of ability and experience, from complete beginners to those who wish to develop their portraiture skills. Students will be encouraged to learn from each other as well as from personal study. Emphasis will be placed on the portrait as a whole which means looking at symbolism, dress, background, colour in composition.

Starting with making your own colour wheel, learn how to mix and match colours. There will be demonstrations every lesson and examples shown. Explore how to use colour to denote mood. Look at composition and take a journey from near to far to put narrative into your paintings. Try out different experimental techniques to be expressive and find your own style. Students will be encouraged to learn from each other as well as from personal study. You will be exposed to various techniques and ideas to stimulate your own work – composition, tone, simplification, colour mixing and mood. Included will be instruction on skies, water, seas and more.

Tuition will be given on all materials and mediums used in collage and we will be looking at the work of a variety of collage artists. Step by step demonstrations will be given every session to enable students to create their own works of art and there will be a focus on helping each individual to find their personal style of mixed media painting. Students will be able to use the learning provided to practice and improve at home.
